The number 1 reason why students FAIL their GCSE Exams every year..
Every single year, I see GCSE students make the same mistake. There’s the “procrastinator” and the “super hard worker” – opposite types of students who make the same mistake that costs them marks in their exams. What is this mistake?
THE NUMBER 1 GCSE EXAMS MISTAKE:
Most students think “revision” means:
-
Read your notes
-
Make dozens of flashcards
-
Read lots of books
-
Make cute diagrams and study charts
This is a huge MISTAKE! Why?
Firstly, it creates the “procrastinators” and the “super hard workers” who both end up doing poorly in the exams. Let me explain why..
The “procrastinators” get overwhelmed, they procrastinate, avoid “revision” because they think they’ve got to revise using this super hard method. The “super hard workers” waste hours making aesthetic flashcards, reading books, stacking up mountains and mountains of notes.
The tragic result: both do badly in exams.
What YOU Should Do In The Final WEEKS To Exams..
I keep saying this in my GCSE Masterclasses every Sunday and I’ll say it again: put those notes away. Put the books away. The ONLY thing YOU should be doing right now (across all your subjects) is practicing past papers. That’s all. Practice answering past papers.
By the way, this is a study technique backed by Science! Research shows if you just read notes, you’ll remember just 10% of what you read. Practice a past paper? You’ll remember 75%! That’s insane:

This is why all my masterclasses are completely structured around GCSE Model Answers:
-
It’s all about practice as I totally focus on past paper practice!
-
If you want to see your marks go up by 1, 2 and even 3 GCSE Grades, STOP wasting your time on anything that isn’t an actual past paper exam.
-
Getting top grades is as easy as past paper practice. Learn from model answers. Practice, copy, repeat.
In my upcoming Easter GCSE Literature Paper 1 & 2 Classes (7-13 April):
-
In addition to answering a model response for the 2022 Past Paper Exams..
-
I’ve prepared a revision cheat sheet – 3 pages with all the set text quotes, context and characters
-
In the live lesson, we get down to business and focus on writing a full mark answer for Literature Paper 1 & 2.

Of course, don’t forget you’re always welcome to join in my weekly Sunday Language Paper 1 & 2 GCSE Masterclass where we practice a past paper a week to keep to keep the resits away: https://www.firstratetutors.com/masterclass
Happy revision!
