TOP 5 TOPIC SENTENCES:
1️⃣ "The poems explore the theme of [theme], highlighting [effect/idea] through [technique]…"

Purpose: This allows you to introduce the central theme and immediately link it to poetic technique in both poems - immediate A02 marks!
2️⃣ "The poets convey a sense of [emotion/idea] by using [technique 1] in [poem 1] as well as [technique 2] in [poem 2], which creates an impact on us as readers."

Purpose: This sentence introduces both the emotion or idea and the technique, setting up an analysis of the two poems’ effects.
3️⃣ "Through [technique], the poet [poet 1] highlights the contrast between [two elements], emphasising [effect]. On the other hand, [poet 2] juxtaposes [two more elements], revealing [effect]."

Purpose: This sentence is perfect for analysing contrasts within the two poems you’ve chosen, such as opposites, shifts in tone or imagery.
